Audio files from the April 4 Board of Education Candidates Forums, held at Stevens Institute and moderated by Bob Bowdon. Listen to the entire proceedings in two audio files, featuring all seven candidates competing for the three seats on April 27, 2011.

On Monday, April 4, the Hoboken Family Alliance and QLC co-hosted a candidates forum for all 7 candidates for the 3 seats on the Hoboken Board of Education. The event took place at Stevens Institute of Technology, which graciously loaned an auditorium at Kidde Hall, and was moderated by Bob Bowdon, a local resident and experienced television moderator and film producer.

The panel was divided into two groups, with Carmelo Garcia, Clifford Godfrey and Jean-Marie Mitchell in the first group, Peter Biancamano, Steven Feinstein, Frances Rhodes-Kearns and Patricia Waiters in the second. The election takes place on April 27, 2011.

After a 1 minute opening statement, each candidate was given a minute to answer each question, with the order of responses shifting to allow each candidate a chance to go first or last. Questions were submitted by audience members and screened by a panel from the two organizations that included Theresa Howard, Helen Manogue and Melissa Abernathy. The audience was instructed to submit questions that could be generally directed at all panelists. Attached to this article are two audio files, one from each session. (Please note: You may need to adjust your audio to hear all the candidates, as the recording was made by ambient sound, not from a mixing board.)
The series, called “Look, Listen, Act,” kicked off August 19, 2009, with a presentation by Councilwoman Beth Mason on her plan for the northwest corner of Hoboken, above the 14th St. Viaduct, west of Park Ave.

Dozens of people attended the forum, held at St. Matthew Trinity Lutheran Church’s Parish Hall, asked questions of Councilwoman Mason, suggested other ideas, and joined in a vigorous discussion of elements of the plan. A video prepared by her team is available on YouTube: Beth Mason presents her “NoHo” plan

The Coalition will be hosting similar events for the public presentation of and comments on development plans for other sectors of the city over the next several months. These events are intended to inform and elicit your views. Hosting of these events neither implies nor indicates the endorsement by the Coalition of any plans.
